This is quite a revolutionary idea. The new ARM996HS actually stops when there is no work to be done, which keeps it from drawing more than it’s minimum operating power. It’s also able to shutdown various sections of the CPU independantly as needed. This obviously isn’t something that’s going to power your next home computer, but it might show up in one of the next portable electronic gadgets, or your next car.

Weekend Projects

It’s another weekend, and I’m back to playing with new software. I’m giving the new Vista beta (build 5308) a test drive and I’m installing Fedora Core 5 on my wifi test box. Already I can tell that the new vista is a much more polished product. I’m also interested to see how RedHat’s latest stable release shapes up. Stay tuned…
