Today was a sad day for Nan and I. This morning we had to have our cat Mr. B put to sleep. We often thought of him as our first child and it was extremely hard to have to make that choice. We both know it was the right thing to do, but that hasn’t made it any easier. I always had cats growing up, but Mr. B was probably the most unique one I’ve ever known. He will be missed to say the least.

What it boils down to is that the keys required to decrypt the data are stored in main memory where Felten and team have focused their attack. Apparently if you’re fast enough, or use a refrigerant, you can recover data stored in memory by removing power from the system and rebooting with a specially crafted OS.

It’s official, Toshiba is throwing in the towel in the HD format war. I can only hope this will mean lower prices on Blu-Ray gear in the near future.
