Our universe is filled with many beautiful sights, if we only take the time to look. With low temperatures and clear skies, I was finally able to get the telescope out for a short tour around the cosmos the other night. It’s been a while since I’ve bothered to take it out, but it was well worth it. While there weren’t any planets in view at the time, the moon was below the horizon and the sky was about as dark as I could hope for. Nan and I got a good look at the Orion Nebula which is worth taking a look at if you’ve never seen it. If the weather cooperates, I’ll have to see if I can take it out again tonight. Perhaps one of these days I’ll put our Nikon D80 to use with the telescope and put some of the images up here. That’s going to take some practice though…

The Most Important Image Ever Taken
YouTube – The Hubble Deep Field: The Most Important Image Ever Taken
This is a great video that uses images from the Hubble Space Telescope to illustrate just how big the universe really is. If you’ve never seen Hubble’s deep and ultra-deep field images, you should check this out. It’s hard not to be humbled by the sheer size of the universe and our relative insignificance by comparison.
A trip down memory lane…
I found a link to this site while browsing the news this evening and reminisced about my early experiences with computers. This guy has a very nice collection. With the exception of machines like the Altair and IMSAI which were a bit before my time, I’ve actually used many of the machines in his collection. My first was Tandy’s TRS-80 Model 1. Ah, the days of ROM carts, cassette tape drives and hours in front of the tube.
