CNN.com – Patriot Act gets one-month extension – Dec 22, 2005
While to many this may seem as though the House is giving the bill less of a chance than the Senate, the truth is more insidious. A one-month extension won’t be enough to effect any real change and the administration will again be able to resume their strong-arm tactics to force a vote on making the current provisions permanent. Sickening.

While republicans are declaring victory over this compromise, it is they who caved in fearing the act’s demise. Hopefully this 6-month period will allow adequate time for the act to be reworked into something a little more compatible with the civil liberties gauranteed by the Constitution.
CNN.com – Letterman subject of restraining order – Dec 21, 2005
I saw this on CNN.com and couldn’t resist posting it. I learned all about an effect called hyperreality in my journalism classes, but this goes beyond that right into full-on delusional behavior. This chick aparently wrote a love note to Letterman and actually believes he’s been talking to her, in code, via his nightly broadcasts since then. (since 1994) I mean, I feel bad for her, but it really is funny. The fact that she even got the restraining order is amazing. (though it doesn’t say much for our legal system…)
