About Clay

I'm a Data Center Operations Engineer in beautiful Charleston, SC. I'm happily married to my wonderful wife Nan and we have an teenage daughter Lela. I'm a total geek. I got into electronics when I was around 9 or 10 and got hooked on computers shortly thereafter. I also love Sci-Fi, (not fantasy) particularly Star Trek. My favorite outdoor activities include rollerblading, biking and hiking. I'm also a bit of a car guy and amateur racing driver.

Easter Modding

A couple of weeks ago, hardwarecooling.com finally got around to calling me back about my order. At 3 months, I couldn’t have cared less, but I let them ship me the stuff anyway. So now I had a spare set of duct modding components. What to do.. what to do?

Time for Power Tools
What better way to start the weekend than a nice little modding project! As it turns out, my wife’s machine needed a little tweaking. Nan’s machine has virtually the same configuration as mine, but it’s all stock. The combination of the case design, power supply, and the retail AMD heatsink meant there wasn’t going to be any overclocking on this puppy. (well, not yet at least..) A few hours of work and the result is a system that’s at least 10°C cooler at all loads. For more info on what I did, click here for the whole story.

Walking the Bridge

Well, I’ve been slacking on posting to my website as of late, but with good reason. Life has been busy lately, but in a good way. This weekend was no exception. With our friends, we set out at 6:00a.m. bound for downtown Charleston to catch the shuttles for the 2004 Cooper River Bridge Run.

What a day!
We had such a great time Saturday. The weather, though a bit cold, was absolutely gorgeous. We arrived downtown just in time to catch the shuttles, and get in position for the race. I managed to take a few pictures during the event, so I’ve posted some of the good ones. Enjoy!

Smeat…

You may be thinking.. “smeat.. wha?” Go see Dawn of the Dead. If you still don’t get it after watching the movie.. well, maybe I’ll elaborate. 🙂 I don’t usually care much for horror flicks, but I really enjoyed this one. (hey, liked it enough to make the first post to my site in weeks.. that’s gotta say something.)

New Stuff
Whoohoo.. UT2004 is out, and I got my DVD-SE preorder! Thanks EB Games!! I’m a big fan of the whole Unreal series, and I must say this is the best yet. Though graphically this isn’t an evolutionary step up, there are plenty of improvements that will keep you glued for hours. If you haven’t gotten a copy of this game yet, what are you waiting for? Run as fast as you can to your computer, or to the nearest software retailer and pick up/order a copy.

While we’re talking entertainment.. 2 of my favorite movies from last year are due for release in the next few weeks… namely, The Matrix – Revolutions, out April 6th and Kill Bill, out April 13th. Can’t Wait! Well, as of this writing it’s 2:30 a.m. and it’s way past my bed-time kids. Time to hit the sack.
